Stunning 1940s WW2 Vintage US Navy M-69F Leather 'Transport Aircraft' Coat - Size 42
Made by the 'Edmund Church Co. Inc.', this one-of-a-kind genuine goatskin leather pilot's coat is in excellent condition for its age. With minor wear from decades of use and storage, it offers a fantastic weathered vintage look with stunning patina, all the while holding its beautiful reddish-brown colour.
Produced and issued in very limited quantities due to expensive and time-consuming manufacturing procedures, the M-69F was issued to US Navy pilots on submarine patrols and long-range missions over the Atlantic where the then-standardised A-2 jacket just wouldn't cut it. The rarity of this garment is truly a testament to its fine quality.
The original contract label is present and mostly legible as seen. Six of the original buttons are still present, while the remaining three have recently been replaced by our team of in-house haberdashers. The original leather belt and buckle are still present with some wear as seen. The mouton fur collar is present and free from molting but appears to have been cut-down and shortened around the circumference at some point during its life. The coat is fully lined with genuine alpaca fur pile which exhibits some molting. Knitted cuffs lie at the end of both sleeves, both of which are in immaculate condition with no moth-balling, holes, or fraying.
Lastly, the goatskin leather shell is strong and supple and in overall fantastic condition considering its near 80-year life. It exhibits some beautiful patina around typical areas such as elbows and cuffs, as well as around pronounced points. There is some heavy wear on either arm where the leather has been worn down past the treated layer.
